Perhaps
something has happened
A friend or relative is
terminally ill
A recent accident has left you with nightmares
Lost your job and now find it hard to get up or even get dressed
Stress, anxiety
and trauma propel many people into therapy;
where we can
identify the accumulative impact your thoughts,
feelings,
behavior and actions have on your life and livelihood.
Do you go to work with a sense of
dread ?
Come home half-dead with fatigue ?
Do you fight with people you love or co-workers ?
Is the toll of excessive eating, alcohol, cigarettes, drugs,
Internet or watching TV obvious, but you continue ?
Do you have excessive spending beyond your means ?
This is ordinary human behavior that has become
dysfunctional - it no longer
works for you. Do you need a diagnosis or
medication for this dysfunction ?
Most likely not, but . . . if you feel it has
gone on far too long or is out of
control - please, do check with your medical
health care provider.
You may ask yourself, "Why can't I get past
this, I should be able to
do this on my own." Others feel shameful to need or ask for help.
Some feel that a "well hidden chest of childhood memories will be
opened and require years of therapy. Then, there's also the stigma
attached to anyone who seeks therapy - because they are "crazy".
A nothing will help feeling is often a symptom of
depression and not
a realistic assessment. The best way past
obstacles is education and
learning new skills, which work for you. One type therapy does
not fit all.
A Greek word meaning to serve, therapy is a service of having
your thoughts and feelings heard, your perceptions explored
and your wounds gently uncovered so healing can begin.
Therapy is a unique relationship, different than one
you experience
when asking advise from family, friends or co-workers. Its purpose is
to help you (1) identify and
understand dysfunctional behavior and
ways of acting, thinking and feeling (2)
work together in a therapeutic alliance (3)
generate movement to positive productive and satisfying
ways (4) realize, there is no agenda, as compared to family, friends,
or co-workers you confide in - who later may throw it back in your face.
